Setting Up Thunderbird

Thunderbird is an open-source, standards-compliant email program available from Mozilla. Thunderbird works with all of our servers and we recommend it.

Make sure you have all the information you need to set up your account. If you don't, contact HIS Support.
You will need to know:

  • Your real name.
  • Your full email address.
  • Your user name (this is the left part of your email address, i.e. john for john@his.com).
  • Your password.
  • The address of your mail server (mail.his.com).

These instructions apply to Thunderbird version 3 and above.

HIS Server Settings

  • Incoming Server Name: mail.his.com (IMAP SSL port 993)
  • Outgoing Server Name: mail.his.com (SMTP STARTTLS port 587or SMTP SSL port 465)
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password
