Setting Up Thunderbird to connect to your Zimbra mailbox

To access your email, you must have the following information:

  1. Your HIS Zimbra email address and password.
  2. Your email server name will be mail.domain.xxx (Replace domain.xxx with your real Zimbra email domain).
  1. If you have not done it already: Download Thunderbird from Mozilla's Thunderbird page, http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ .
  2. Launch Thunderbird.
  3. If you have never used Thunderbird before, the Account Wizard should start on it's own. To open it manually, go to File > New > Account. , This will open the Account Wizard.
  4. Enter the following on the Mail Account Setup window:
    • Your name: enter your full name.
    • Email address: enter your email address.
    • Password: enter your email password. Make sure "Remember password" is checked.
  5. Click on the Continue button.
  6. Click on the Manual config button.
  7. Enter the following and then click the Re-test button.
    • Incoming: IMAP
    • Incoming Server hostname: mail.his.com or mail.domain.xxx.
      Either Port 993 with SSL/TLS
      or Port 143 with StartTLS
    • Outgoing Server hostname: mail.his.com or mail.domain.xxx.
      Either Port 465 with SSL/TLS
      or Port 587 with StartTLS
    • Username: enter your HIS username: mail.his.com or mail.domain.xxx
    • SSL: For both Incoming and Outgoing, make sure SSL/TLS is selected.
    • Authentication: For both Incoming and Outgoing, make sure AutoDetect is selected.
  8. Click on the Re-test button.
  9. If errors were detected, correct the errors and then click on the Re-test button again. *
    If no errors were detected, click on the Create Account button.
  10. Click on the OK button.
  11. Click on the Get Mail button to retrieve your email messages.
  12. Right-click on the account in the left window pane that you just created. Click on the Subscribe button.
  13. Select all of the mailbox folder that you would like to subscribe to.
  14. Click on the OK button.
