Enabling Secure Connections in Thunderbird 3-4

These versions of Thunderbird are not supported anymore, this article is for legacy purpose.

1- Open the Thunderbird application.

2- From the menu options, go to Tools->Account Settings.

3- Find the account labelled with your HIS-hosted email address on the left side panel and click on Server Settings.

4- Under Server Settings, look for the Security Settings section and change the following:
Click the pull down menu for ** SSL/TLS**)

5- DO NOT check "Use secure authentication". Our servers do not support that.

6- The Port number should automatically have been changed to "993" for IMAP. (Note: If you are using POP instead it will automatically change to 995 . Check this to confirm you made the correct setting change.

7- Click OK to close the dialog.

8- In the white menu on the left, select the entry Outgoing Server (SMTP). The Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings appear on the right. Select the server name for your HIS-hosted account.
Change the Port from 25 to 587 or 465.
Verify that the ** Use name and password** box is checked. Click on the box to check it, if it is not checked.
Make sure username is your full email address, and leave your password as is.

9- Click OK

That's it.
